Eastern animation not Japanese shocker!

Death Fish II from between the land and the sky, 30th October, 2005

Technically accomplished sci-fi animation, a blend of 3D and traditional, that proves there is life outside of Japan when it comes to oriental animation. The visuals do tend to outshine the story but it's well worth a look. The English (ie, American) dub is horrific though, so I hope this disc has the original Korean language track.

Epic anime not from Japan

Dragilex from , 17th February, 2006

Sky Blue is beautiful, there is no denying that. The CG and anime is blended seamlessly and retains its quality throughout the film. The story is of a more sweeping Final Fantasy/RPG style than your usual cyberpunk manga anime. The dialogue can run quite dry as the film focuses on the visual elements, it is this feature that could have seen Sky Blue turn into a 3 hour+ epic. This story is very predictable and simple but the way it is told is a heartfelt tug on how things could turn out in the real world. Sky Blue is very watchable just for its stylistics. A good effort to break the Japanese dominated anime market. If you like this I recommend Casshern which throws real film alongside CG and anime.

Pretty but superficial stuff

Robbiedjude from , 8th March, 2010

While the film is pleasing to the eye in common with many a manga the characters are 2 dimensional (pardon the pun) and the plot the same old stuff that could fit any one of a hundred movies like this. Okay but if you want decent manga rent Karas or Helsing

Brilliant

I found this movie to be filled with conflict that relates to todays issues with pollution and power... I thought the graphics were very well done and the story line was very well written... The movie did not bore me at all and is one I now own and have watched 4 times since i first watched it backed in November... I recommend this film as one worth watching :-)

Sky Blue

Hmmm, not too much to say here. Ecologically moral, dystopian society anime spliced with 3D, we have been here before. There are some nice character designs, the story isn't very deep with a sub-standard love triangle over warring factions. A little too heavy with the 3D though, and not enough characterisation; people die with very little impact as we hardly knew them.

Been There Done That

Sky Blue is a somewhat decent Anime that I rented and sent back on the same day. It's definitely not one of those DVD's you rent for days on end so all your friends can see it, put it that way. I'm not sure what I expected when I rented Sky Blue. All I know is it was recommended by a bunch of people so I thought 'why not?'. The truth is, Sky Blue is one of many films that have roughly the same storyline. It's your typical 'two factions living apart from each other go to war over the environment' kinda thing. It's been done before, and allot better too. Some movies that have done this better are Origin and Princess Mononoke for example. One thing I will say is that the animation was really quite good in this. It had a cool mix of 2D Anime, 3D, and even live action mixed in together seamlessly to create quite a nice visual presentation. The voice acting is done by the same old group of people who I think have dubbed every single movie that's came out of Asia in the last 20 years. Well, I'm not sure if it's the same people, but basically, a bunch of B-actors doing voice-over work. Nothing special. To summarise, Sky Blue is not a terrible film, but it's a film that's been done many times before and doesn't have much that stands out apart from some parts of the film's animation. Rent it if you like, but I'm sure there are better titles to be seen.
