dark tale

arun from Liverpool, UK, 6th June, 2005

There is a heavy trace of depressing feeling throughout the film. The protagonist sees the world as a cruel, thankless and a harsh place. He rejects them and refuses to acknowledge himself to be alive in front of the world. If Kaagaz ka phool dealt with film world, this deals with poetry. Gurudutt and Waheeda Rehman are there again. At least there is a positive ending

Story superbly told. Excellent performances from the cast. Watch it. If you like old films you will not regret it.

A Must see Indian Cinema Classic

A Customer from London, 16th May, 2009

A very accurate take on life by Guru Dutt, where people have lost touch with the true human spirit. Where money, lust, greed, ego plays a prominent role in peoples life. My particular dvd had sub-titles which were out of sync towards the end, unfortunately. Otherwise a movie well worth seeing if you appreciate the true art form cinema.

Good if you like this style

A Customer from Hove, 19th February, 2009

This is a very good movie if these old Hindi movies are what you're into. It's a good movie if you have somewhat high expectations from all the raving it got. It's a so-so movie if your expectations are very high. And it's a bad movie if you don't like old black and white Hindi films that take way too long to tell the story or when the story just goes on and on for too long.
