A science fiction film that won't rock your world by any stretch of the imagination, which is a shame, they could have done a lot more with it, as it has a half decent cast. Basically a group of young Americans with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities are hiding out in the far east from a clandestine U.S. government agency who stalk them continually for their powers. They eventually band together led by Nick Gant (Chris Evans) and Cassie Holmes (Dakota Fanning) and assisted by Kira Hudson ( Camilla Belle) in order to break free from the sinister Henry Carver (Djimon Hounsou) and the agency forever. The problem with it is it's chaotic nature , meandering plot that seems to go nowhere , and it just doesn't hold the interest enough. The special powers they all have look weak bordering on the ridiculous, and you just get the feeling that the whole cast just don't really have their hearts in it. Even the pace was sluggish and at almost two hours I found myself getting increasingly distracted as I tried to keep focused on the mediocre plot. The only two positives were the location which was interesting to look at , and the performance of Ms Fanning who continues to improve as she blossoms into womanhood. She is easily the best thing in it. Don't bother with the cinema for this one, it's a DVD watch and then if there isn't anything else that fires your interest. All in all a wasted opportunity. In a word....................Disappointing.

Strong Characters, Weak Plot

Browncoat from , 6th June, 2009

PUSH is a very watchable film thanks to it fluid pacing and race against time feel. Watching it though you can't help feel that the whole film is a 'setup' movie that is designed to spawn sequels given the amount of backstory we find out about each character during the course of the film. Whilst this was welcome considering characterisation in this genre isn't always a strength the plot noticeably suffers for this. An example of this is the complete lack of information given to the audience as to why an asian gang is involved and what their motives and link to the other characters are. Another note about the film seeming like a 'set-up' for a sequel is the numerous amounts of loose ends that aren't dealt with, including the wide open ending. The special effects are workable but not mind-blowing by any stretch of the imagination. They aren't bad enough to take you out of the film unlike the shoddy CGI in Wolverine which pulled me out of the film and I could never really get back into it. The acting is OK, Dakota Fanning steals almost every scene she is in although this is helped by the wooden display by Chris Evans who gives a workable but uninspiring performance, he really needs to learn how to emote more. So in summary, PUSH is a good sci-fi thriller film that won't impress you with an intricate storyline but will charm you with some interesting characters. It introduces an interesting world and I would like to see a sequel in the future, hopefully with a bigger budget and a tighter plot with some of the many loose ends being tied up.

Heroes TV series copy

olliemyers from , 8th March, 2010

The end suggests that there is going to be a sequel because the story doesn't really finish. This is a complete copy of Heroes, except no where near as good. Its about people who have special powers being hunted by the government after they were given their abilities through government experiments. Its like a modern more realistic (if thats possible) x-men film. Enjoyed watching it but glad I rented and didn't waste a few £'s buying it on DVD.

Disappointing

GaryI from , 27th February, 2010

You have to keep reminding yourself of the start of this film as it progresses and by doing so realise that the narrative is all over the place. Not much is explained and this omission is not obviously deliberate, making me think it was made up as it went along. Like 'Jumper' we have people with special powers against a secret govt organisation hunting them. All very confusing and ultimately very disappointing. The setting is good though and its filmed very well.

poor version of Heroes

soz from , 26th February, 2010

People have powers and some bad ones follow some others around and they have to find a way not to be caught. To me Heroes is far more exciting and i supposei expected a lot more becuase Dakota Fanning was in it. The effects were good and i wouldn't say dont get it, but dont expect its going to be an Oscar winner its just ok.
